We wanted to share an update that after careful consideration, we have made the decision to retire the Waze Carpool service. Map Editing Rank

This gives drivers a complete, at-a-glance view of the situation, even if roads aren’t physically blocked. You can proactively inform drivers about planned events like construction, concerts, and parades, helping them navigate around road closures and find the best routes. Waze works because of our map editors, beta testers, localizers, and fellow traffic haters. Get driving directions and live traffic info before you leave, and then save straight from here to your app.

• Each field in the table represents a different activity inside Waze.
• You receive a different number of points for each activity as listed in the tables below.
• Our system targets notifications based on a driver’s past driving behavior and the event’s impact on their likely routes, so your information is always relevant.
• These points are currently used to define your status and “rank” in points compared to all other users in Waze.

• This rank is displayed in various locations on the app and in the My Dashboard through the web interface.

Your rank will generally change on a daily basis, until you get very high in the ranking. We want to continue to make a real-world impact by doubling down on helping cities address mobility problems such as congestion, safety, sustainability and cost. In order for us to achieve this we will be retiring the Waze Carpool service to focus the company’s efforts on better supporting drivers on the road today. For complex events that affect a large area, our enhanced tools allow you to define the entire zone of impact.

If your rank is lower than what it should be (based on the criteria below), and you are NOT in the USA, please contact Support to have the team look into the situation. Currently moving from one rank to the next higher rank is not automatic and needs assistance from Waze support. USA based editors should refer to the Editing rank USA section. Other road goodies often coincide with special holidays and will appear in random locations on the map.

The Waze team is working on a different approach to this status. The top percentage is calculated once a month, and if more and more Wazers get points, it’s possible that the total amount needed to reach shield / sword / crown will actually go up. To reach the Royalty level (crown icon), you need to be in the top percentage of all Wazers in your locality (in the US, this is determined by state). You receive a different number of points for each activity as listed in the tables below.

Closing roads using the Waze App

Note that the number of points you get for distance related activities is different when measured in miles and in kilometers. In effect you get the same points for the same physical distance. The second table below shows you the translation of the two measurements system. You can see your points and rank from the web interface by selecting My Dashboard, or from the client application you can select the Menu, then My Waze, then the Scoreboard. Plan a trip with the Live Map

As you advance to higher levels your reporting permissions grow, as your reports get greater influence on real-time routing. This is tracked in the Waze client application as can be seen in the Waze client application Scoreboard. For those more interested in the details behind the calculations you can review this forum thread. Additional changes made to the point system are noted in this later forum thread. Based on the current point system, the Wazers who spend time on the web interface updating the map will generally accumulate the most points in any particular week. If your goal is to get a lot more points than you have now, you should consider investigating updating the map for your area.

Giving unnamed segments a street name in that operation might get you more points in some cases. Allowing/forbidding a turn counts as a change in the node of the turn, so all changes in the same node will be granted only once. Only on roads connecting in the immediate vicinity (around 100m) of the actual position of the wazer, and only in the driving direction of the wazer. If for any reason you have a question you don’t feel comfortable asking in the main forums, you can send a Private Message (PM) to a Waze Champ who will be happy to answer your question. Some countries with Self-Management may have different ranking systems.

Your total points collected from all types of activities are compared to others in your Country or State depending upon what server you are located. You are also compared to everyone on both servers around the world. This rank is displayed in various locations on the app and in the My Dashboard through the web interface. The Waze client application Scoreboard displays your points and points rank compared to Everyone or your Facebook Friends for your country, your state (in the US) for Weekly or All Time, time frames.

The Waze Champ status only appears in the forums as part of the user’s profile history when they post a message.

Each field in the table represents a different activity inside Waze. Every night the Waze system will calculate all the points that you accumulated for each activity through the day. The system will then identify your rank among all other Waze users.

You can see your own editing rank from the Waze Map Editor (WME) on the top left of the screen. In the WME when you select a segment, the properties drawer will show you the name of the editor who created and last modified the segment. Also, when saving a large number of changes at once, ways to recover after crisis the system will not credit you with more than 150 points each time you save changes. If you have more than 150 points worth of changes stored up before you save, the edits will be saved to the map, but you only get up to 150 points. Remember that points are not displayed in the save icon, only edits. Therefore when making a large number of edits be aware of the points per edit to prevent doing work that is not credited.

Your Rank and Points

However, you will not receive more points for changing different properties of the same segment in the same Save. We want to thank all Map Editors who helped us along the years in mapping Carpool related interest points, providing feedback and lots more. Once you meet the criteria for one of the following tasks below, a message pops up in the Waze client application.

What Is a Map Edit?

• USA based editors should refer to the Editing rank USA section.
• The candy will come back at another location as you continue to drive, or when you use Waze on another trip.
• In the first example, those 10 segments changed all at once will get you credit for 10 edits.
• Once you meet the criteria for one of the following tasks below, a message pops up in the Waze client application.

In the second example, those 10 changes will get you credit for 1 edit. Waze uses a point system to track usage of the the Waze client application, and also when you use the web interface to make edits to the map. Depending upon what actions you perform will determine how many point you earn. These points are currently used to define your status and “rank” in points compared to all other users in Waze. Most forum questions are answered by these users as they give their time freely to the Waze community. They are selected by Waze developers and are generally in closer direct communication with the Waze development team.
